About

Why Umniah

Umniah (أمنية) means “a wish”. Ours is simple: more time with the people we love, and less of it lost to screens, for parents first and for our children with us.

The site is deliberately small. It offers a pledge you can keep, ideas for what to do instead, a jar for your family's wishes, a plan for your fridge, and guides as they're written. Use it, then put the phone down.

Endorsed by an addiction medicine physician

Umniah is endorsed by an addiction medicine and internal medicine physician (MD) in Miami, Florida, who is also the mother of two young children. Her parent guides are on the way.

Who makes it

Umniah is a project of Carrier Grade Inc., a company in Miami, Florida. We also make Peeryn, a family-safe VPN that blocks adult sites, gambling, ads and scams and keeps a bedtime on every device. We mention Peeryn on this site because it's the tool we built for the rules a family sets, and we want you to know it's ours.

We also make Haflie (haflie.com), birthday invites that collect the replies and become a private family album, because a party is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon off the screens.

And Rahlie (rahlie.com), one page for a group trip, with seats, a waitlist and a private album afterwards, for hikes, weekends away and days out.

Umniah has no connection to Umniah Mobile Company or any other phone carrier.

Not medical advice

Umniah offers general ideas for family life. It isn't medical advice and doesn't replace a doctor. If you're worried about your own or your child's use of screens, please talk to a clinician you trust.
